Sunday Sermon

Our Father - Conclusion
April 10, 2022

- -

Today Father Gregory concludes his series on the Lord's Prayer by contemplating the line "But deliver us from evil." The previous sermon in this series reflected on different types of temptations. Temptations that bring pleasure are voluntary, and those that bring pain are involuntary. Temptations are a benefit for Christians and necessary to work out their salvation. The devil is the source of temptations and seeks the destruction of a man wanting to separate him from God. There is a battle waging in our hearts between good and evil. The evil we pray for deliverance from is the devil himself. Evil does not come from God but is the result of free will. An Orthodox Christian is called to know the enemy fighting the devil or the evil one.
