Today, as we celebrate the Holy Fathers of the 4th Ecumenical council, Father Gregory appropriately continues his sermon series on the Nicene Creed. Part 3 of this series dealt with who Jesus is, while part 4 speaks about what Jesus did. Father Gregory continues to educate us that the Nicene Creed summarizes Scripture. The Nicene Creed informs the faithful Jesus offers Himself to all humanity. The Divine and human combined to form a single person. Jesus came down from heaven incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became man without confusion remaining unchanged. The Nicene Creed acknowledges Jesus as a historical person crucified under a Roman governor, Pontius Pilate, as indicated in Scripture. It confesses that Jesus suffered, was buried, and rose after three days which is taken from the writings of Saint Paul in I Corinthians. The final line covered today reveals that Jesus ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of the Father, and will come again to judge the living and the dead.
