Sunday Sermon

Holy Pentecost
June 04, 2023

- Fr. Micah Hirschy -

Today is Holy Pentecost. Father Micah shares in his sermon how often the scriptures refer to the most important day of our lives that should shape us in the here and now, the "last day" in which all sickness will pass away. The connection between the last day and Holy Pentecost is the Holy Spirit who brings this "last day" into the here and now. We can participate in the life of Christ through the Church, its services, and sacraments through the Holy Spirit, who breaks the distance between us and Christ. The Holy Spirit brings this "last day" into our midst and determines our orientation as we look to the east and Christ's second coming. Historically Holy Pentecost was a harvest festival, but now it is remembered for the descent of the Holy Spirit. We should live in anticipation of Christ's second coming and His coming Kingdom by the power of the Holy Spirit bearing fruit.
