Sunday Sermon

Seek First His Kingdom
June 25, 2023

- Fr. Micah Hirschy -

In a modern world full of abundance, where we have more luxuries now than ever before, we are riddled with anxiety. Despite our abundance, we struggle with a desire to acquire more. Why? In today’s sermon, Father Micah explains the root of anxiety and how our acquisition of worldly things is merely a method of distraction. In today’s Gospel reading, Matthew 6:22-33, Christ reveals the antidote to our modern plague of anxiety.

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well.”

The kingdom of God is a gift defined by the resurrection of Christ, the defeat of death, and the presence of the King. We can follow Christ’s command to “seek first his kingdom” through prayer, humility, and love of Christ. May we seek the kingdom of God by humbly calling on the name of Christ, the One who lives, at all times with love.
