In Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians he says, “Brethren, be watchful, stand firm in your faith, be courageous, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.” Father Micah speaks of the life of Saint Amphilochios Makris of Patmos, a 20th century saint who embodied the words of Saint Paul in today’s epistle reading. Saint Amphilochios is an example to all as he lived the truth of the Gospel of Christ throughout his life. He cultivated within his heart the love of Christ. He remained watchful and vigilant, observing the fasts, praying, and participating in the life of the Church. He stood firm in his faith by not merely believing but living a true Christian life. By seeking humility he found the courage and strength of Christ himself. And by seeing Christ in the face of his neighbor, he treated each person with the same love, kindness, and dignity. He did all things in love. May Saint Amphilochios Makris be a guide for each and every one of us.x
