Sunday Sermon

Answered Prayers
January 19, 2025

- Fr. Micah Hirschy -

In today’s Gospel reading, we encounter 10 lepers crying out to Christ, saying, “Jesus Most High, have mercy on us.” Christ heals them all, but only one, a Samaritan, returns to thank him.

Fr. Micah encourages us to be like the lepers, coming to the Lord in our times of need. Not only can we come to Christ in our times of need, though, but we can come to him in every circumstance. Fr. Micah gives numerous examples of situations we encounter in our day to day lives and how we can respond in prayer.

As the one leper came back to Christ to praise him, so we too should give thanks for the multitude of prayers he answers. Fr. Micah points out that many of our prayers are answered throughout the day without our notice. He encourages us to reflect on how many times we’re spared from harm and given what we need, and to thank him for hearing our prayers and answering them.
