The mission of Philoptochos (friend of the poor) is to promote charitable, benevolent, and philanthropic outreach; to preserve the sanctity of life and family; and to perpetuate and promote our Orthodox Christian faith and traditions. Through its National and Metropolis Boards, 26,000 members and more than 400 active chapters nationwide, Philoptochos seeks to fulfill its mission to help the poor, the destitute, the hungry, the aged, the sick, the unemployed, the orphaned, the imprisoned, the widowed, those with disabilities, and the victims of disasters. The Birmingham Chapter of Philoptochos is a group of over 100 women who gather through fellowship, fund-raising, spiritual growth, and community outreach.
