As Fr Micah says at the end of the video: At this time, Fr Gregory and I, together with all the clergy and staff of the parish ask you to step forward with your gifts, your willingness and your love, and to offer your time and your talent. The next steps are for you to decide in which of these four areas you feel that you have the most to contribute. We'll be gathering together in small groups where we will discuss and decide on goals that we will actively engage in and enact over the next few years.

The Goals

Youth and Young Adult Ministries that are:

Self-Sustaining

Vibrant and engaging outside of Church

Up to date with social media and technology

Engaging among different generations

 

Outreach that:

Grows the membership of our Parish

Serves the downtown community

Is recognized outside of our Parish

 

Religious Education that will allow our Faithful to:

Have a base knowledge of the Holy Scripture, Orthodox Spirituality & Liturgy

Increase the practice of their faith in all aspects of their lives

Confidently share their faith and knowledge with others

 

Parish Inclusivity:

No one will feel alone or alienated

Everyone would know how to participate and follow the Services

Community members actively seek to get to know everyone

The Rev. Fr. Gregory Edwards, Ph.D., was raised in Virginia and eastern Pennsylvania, and became a member of the Orthodox Church while studying for his Bachelor's degree in Religious Studies at Brown University. After completing a Master's Degree in the New Testament and early Christianity at Florida State University, he conducted doctoral studies in Greece at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, graduating summa cum laude in 2012. Ordained in 2007, he served parishes in Thessaloniki and Volos for 9 years. He and his wife Presvytera Pelagia lived in Greece from 2006-2016, where their four children were born. He has served as Assistant Professor of Missiology at St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Seminary in New York since 2014. Before coming to Birmingham in March 2019, Fr. Gregory served St. George Greek Orthodox Church in New Port Richey, FL from 2016-2019.
